Dead by Daylight: A Nightmare on Elm Street DLC PS4 review

Dead by Daylight: A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger is finally here as a video game adaption, and he has come to kill you in your sleep. However, this time around Freddy, who's from the horror seriesA  Nightmare on Elm Street, is now available to play as a killer in the popular online survival-horror PvP game,Dead by Daylight. There hasn't been a proper introduction of Freddy Krueger into a video game format since the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and that version was complete garbage. You ran around punching spiders, snakes, flies, and rodents, all the while collecting bones. I guess the Nightmare on that Elm Street was you cleaning up the town's vermin.

Aptly nicknamed as "The Nightmare", Freddy Krueger changes the game's killer mechanics just a tad. While the majority of the killers in the game reside on the prime-material plane, The Nightmare resides in the realm where the lines between dreams and realities are a bit blurred. The developers created a different way for Freddy to kill the survivors in the game by giving him the ability to pull the players into the dream world. Freddy Krueger is basically a dream demon, and once you're in his realm, you're feed for the slaughter. Once Freddy pulls you into the dream realm, the only way for you to escape him is for the other players to wake you up.

In the physical realm where the players fix the generators or destroy hex totems to escape from the killer, Freddy cannot affect them or hurt them at all. In this time, the killers playing Freddy have to strategize in trying to break up the survivor's team play and pull each of them into the dream realm in order to become food for the entity. It's a great tug of war between both sides when you're in the thick of it.

New Perks

Freddy comes with new perks to help you kill the survivors or torture them into oblivion during the trials. A few of these are pretty dangerous to experience as a survivor if you do encounter a higher ranked Freddy Krueger player with these perks maxed; especiallyBlood Warden since it blocks the survivors from exiting the level.

Final Reaction

For the hardcoreDead by Daylightplayers, Freddy is a great new addition to the list of trademarked killers that have recently joined their fold. Freddy now stands shoulder to shoulder with Leatherface and Michael Myers (my personal favorite). However, playing as Freddy initially, I felt completely overpowered. I was averaging 3-4 sacrifices per game until the developers installed the patch for Freddy. Even still, Freddy is a formidable character to play against despite being nerfed a bit. Playing as a survivor against him, I still haven't figured out a complete strategy yet since he seems to get me about 80% of the time. I guess I just have to "git gud" as my online peers would say. If you're a fan of Freddy Krueger, then this add-on is for you.

One, two, Freddy's coming for you.
Three, four, Better lock your door
Five, six, grab a crucifix.
Seven, eight, Gonna stay up late.
Nine, ten, Never sleep again.
One, two, Freddy's coming for you.
Three, four, Better lock your door
Five, six, grab a crucifix.
Seven, eight, Ya better stay awake.
Nine, ten, He's back again.
